# Geolocation Providers

A Geolocation Provider is a component or service responsible for determining the geographical location of a device, user, or request.

It supplies location data—such as latitude, longitude, or other location-related information—to the application.

At Shoppego, we use **your** [**location settings**](/tutorials/en/settings/locations.md) and the **customer's shipping details** to **calculate the distance between the two locations**.

Based on this distance, the system then displays the appropriate shipping rates on your website's checkout page, in accordance with your ["Based on distance" shipping rate settings](/tutorials/en/settings/shipping.md#setting-up-distance-based-rates).
